Echo Echo Ensemble – Ayesha Mailey, Kelly Quigley, Zoe Ramsey and Tonya Sheina – were teaching at a Contact Improvisation Festival in the Kaluga region of Russia earlier this August. The Festival took place at a working eco farm, deep in the forest, with around 60 people attending. The setting was breathtaking, especially when the sun was shining.
“We could not have asked for better hosts or participants. We shared our approach to movement and performance working in depth for 3 full days.
It was a wonderful experience and a great opportunity for the four of us to teach together as a unit, which we rarely get the chance to do.
The sound of the cicadas served as a beautiful sound score for sections of our classes and was very inspiring to improvise to during the jamming sessions in the evening.”
The Ensemble is very grateful to have been given the opportunity to be able to do this international project and would like to thank Masha Grudskaya, Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company, and Arts Council Northern Ireland Support for Individual Artist Programme for making it happen.
Hope you enjoy the photos!
